We caught up with our young, black and talented Creative Designer, Thaddaeus Brown for a tell-all Q&A interview. Here, Thaddaeus takes us through some of his accomplishments, values and interests outside of work. He also reveals all about what working at Eagle London is like.
Q: Job Title?
I’m a Creative Designer in the production department for Eagle London Agency.
Q: How long have you been with Eagle London Agency?
I’ve been a part of the team for over 9 months now.
Q: What drives you?
Learning new ways to do things, setting high standards for myself and becoming better at communicating value to people, which in turn boosts my value as a Creative Designer.
Q: What do you love most about working at Eagle London Agency?
Loads of things! But the thing I love the most is the agency’s positioning as a black-owned creative hub supporting businesses and individuals that need high quality creative and web development services.
As a young black man myself, I experienced difficulty getting my foot in the door into the private creative sector typically known as “Adland” despite having access to employability and development programmes aimed specifically at the advertising industry and having gained experience within the public creative sector (I won London Council’s 2018 Hackney Apprentice of the Year). And even with the chances and opportunities, I did get, I was able to observe the work culture and its lack of diversity intimidated me, and to be frank, was something that put me off actively looking for work in the industry.
Although I’ve found that joining Eagle London has been a smooth natural fit with the challenges to adapt being in the work and the clients, as opposed to the work/office culture and environment, making my experience as a new employee comfortable, allowing me to focus on outputting the best creative content possible.
Q: What makes you passionate about this business?
Well, what makes me passionate about this agency is that its own passions, missions and values are almost/if not identical to my own.
Not only in providing professional creative and web services but by giving back to our community here in Newham, East London as well as more widely the black community and wider than that the progressive community looking to make the world a fairer and better place for everyone.
I also take pride in working for an agency that has been long-standing (since 2004) and has established a global presence.
Q: Where is your go-to place to relax?
Home for me. I have everything there to keep me stimulated and productive. The gym is also a source of relaxation for me, that feeling of stepping out of those doors after a great workout is amazing and a great way to reset, especially as my job can mean that I sit down for large periods during the day.
Q: Where is your go-to place to have fun?
Probably the Shoreditch nightlife, obviously pre-COVID, I loved looking forward to the weekend, whether that was going out with my older brother or with friends and having a
good time listening to music and joining in on the good vibes with a little 1-2 step.
Q: What is the environment like at Eagle London Agency?
It’s a great environment, one where you can have very serious discussions on the current state of the world and politics, but always at any point able to throw in something to make the office chuckle. And of course, being situated in the heart of East London but a storey up away from the hustle and bustle of Stratford Centre, means we have the best of both worlds, with having the quiet to settle into when work needs to get done and also having a range of shops and restaurants nearby to choose from whenever we need to liven things up a bit.
Q: What fun things have you done so far at Eagle?
Well for me, fortunately, a lot of what I do in my day-to-day would be considered as fun, because I love being able to jump on a computer or go out to a shoot and generate creative content for clients. But other than that we have had a fair share of office drinks, parties and eat-outs, which have resulted in very jolly evenings and not so jolly mornings (Haha, no, it never gets too messy, I always leave before it does!).
Q: What advice would you give someone wanting to join our agency?
Bring on your desire to learn, grow and push the envelope because there is always scope to innovate and present fresh new ideas and ways to do things, but also be prepared to work hard, as the team here works to ensure we provide our clients with a level of quality consistent with any other “top” agency.
Q: What’s one tip you think everyone should know about this agency?
We are proud of our heritage, with the majority of the team having a background in Ghana, we are diversity champions, meaning that we embrace fair representation and welcome anyone who also possesses similar values.
